CEMA is no longer operational The EUEI-UNEP
Capacity Enhancement and Mobilisation Action for Energy in Africa (CEMA)
was a collaboration between the
EU Energy
Initiative (EUEI) and the United Nations
Environment Programme (UNEP). CEMA,
implemented by UNEP DTIE (France)
and UNEP Risoe Centre (Denmark), in
collaboration with partner Centres throughout Africa, is a four-year
activity designed to support the
Africa-EU Energy Partnership.
Due to unforeseen developments, CEMA has been terminated and there will be no further activities. Please note that the acronym CEMA now stands for the Conference of Energy Ministers of Africa, an interministerial body established by the African Union at the All Africa Energy Week in Maputo, Mozambique in November 2010. KIBESA CEMA developed a web 2.0 knowledge and information sharing database: Kibesa - the Knowledge and Information Base for Energy Solutions in Africa. Kibesa remains operational and is in the process of being upgraded to a database on energy access projects within the context of GNESD. CEMA Workshops The final CEMA workshop was held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 31 August to 2 September 2010. The workshop focused on the Eastern and Southern African sub-regions and the main topic for discussion was the formulation of the Action Programme for the sub-regions, based on the CEMA Needs Assessment.
